Itinerary

Day 1:Leh (3501)

Our services start with your arrival at Leh airport. Meet & greet and transfer to the Hotel. Welcome drink on arrival. We recommend you completely relax for the rest of the day to enable yourselves to acclimatize to the rarefied air at the high altitude, tourist can explore the Leh market and shanti stupa in the evening only if you feel fine. O/N hotel

Day 2:Leh(Full day excursion monasteries and palaces tour) 112kms

After breakfast take a full day excursion to renowned monasteries and palaces of Ladakh region.
Founded in 1433 by Palden Sherab. Thiksey monastery is the most beautiful monastery of Ladakh. This monastery majestically overlooks the valley, a magnificent group of about 80 monks; discovery of the beautiful inner courtyard which distributes access to the various temples. The most amazing is certainly the temple of Maitreya with its gigantic interior statue which covers all floors of the building. To join the next site, we will take the path of school children.

Founded in 1632 by Lama Staktsang Raspa. Visit Hemis Monastery, it is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery of the Drukpa Lineage. The monastery houses an amazing collection of the age-old relics such as the idol of Lord Buddha made up of copper gilt, gold and silver stupas It holds the distinction of being the biggest as well as the wealthiest monastery of Ladakh. The annual Hemis festival honoring Padmasambhava is held here in June.

On the way back to Leh visit Shey (Built in 17th century by king Deldan Namgyal) capital of ancient Ladakh, is an interesting complex whose importance is still measured by the quality of the paintings and the astonishing quantity of chortens or other votive monuments that surround it, especially the copper gilt statue of lord Buddha The Rock-carved statue of five Buddha can be seen below the palace on the roadside, which was probably carved during the reign of Singay Namgyal.

Built in 1825th by king Tsespal Tundup Namgyal. the Stok Palace , residence of the present kings of Ladakh. Transformed into a museum, the collections presented evoke a recent past where the royal family ruled over this valley. O/N hotel

Day 3:Leh-Basgo- Likir-Alchi (3100m) 90kms

Drive to lower Indus valley for sightseeing, first we will visit fortress of Basgo , ancient winter capital of Ladakh, strategic site for the control of caravans between high and low Ladakh. Built by king Jamyang Namgyal and Singey Namgyal in 16th Century AD. Singey Namgyal made three storey copper guilt of Maitriya Buddha, as a memorial of his father Jamyang Namgyal . Continue to Likir , monastery belonging to the order Gelupa, (founded by Lama Duwang Chosje in 1065) with beautiful statues and an interesting collection of thankas. Road to Alchi,one of the most interesting sites of Ladakh (founded in 11th century by Lotsawa Rinchen Zanhpo) finely chiseled paintings typical of Tibetan-Kashmiri art (provide a headlamp to enjoy the frescoes in the dim light), monumental statues, chortens, prayer wheels and Loungta. Peaceful evening in the village of Alchi, bordered with fields of barley, apricot orchards and mulberry trees. O/N in Alchi or Ulle resort

Day 4:Alchi-Lamayouru-Leh 180kms

After breakfast, proceed to Lamayuru. Lamayuru monastery belongs to Drigung order of Tibetan Buddhism .The history of the monastery begins with the visit of Arahat Nimagon to this place, when there was merely a lake here. It is said that Arahat made a prophecy that “a monastery will come up at this spot” Thereafter, Mahasiddha Naropa (1016–1100) the great translator Rinchen Zangpo (958–1055) visited the place Take some good snaps of the Moon landscape (Land which reassembles the lunar surface) and enjoy the stunning views on the way. Day 5:Leh-Kharzong La (5400m) -Nubra (3050m) 135kms

After Breakfast drive to Nubra Valley via Khardungla (Highest Motorable road in the World) post lunch we explore Nubra Valley we start with Diskyid Monastery located on a hilltop from where one have the panoramic view of Nubra valley, this is the oldest and largest monastery in Nubra valley and belongs to Gelugpa sect (founded in the 14th century by Changsem Sherab Zangpo), Then we head to Hunder which is famous for its sand dunes and for (double-humped) Bactrian camels. Fixed camp O/N camp

Day 6:Nubra-Shayok-Pangong Lake (4251m) 155kms

(In July & Aug sometime Shayok road remain closed due to increase of water in the river)
After breakfast, we drive to next destination Pangong lake via Shayok , The road follows the Shayok river, and climbs up a mountain before finally descending into Shayok village. The road rises to cross a glacial lock and we discover the sumptuous lake Pangong , border with Tibet . Evening free at Pangong lake, enjoy changing colors of Lake specially during sunset & sunrise. Pangong is also the highest salt water lake in the world shared by Ladakh and Tibet . O/N camp

Day 7:Pangong-Tsaga La-Hanle (4500m) 160kms

Morning walk on the shores of the lake to enjoy this magical place, after breakfast drive to Hanle, by crossing Chushul Village, Tsaga La (15,200 Ft) enjoy the drive upto Hanle. Hanle in changthang region of Ladakh is one of the most beautifully enchanting, calm and soul loosing places in India. Hanle has a lovely monastery offering some great aerial views of whole village that is a home of about 1000 people. Hanle monastery is a 17th century monastery of the Drukpa lineage of the Kagyu sect. Monastery is home to about 60 monks, built under the protange of the king Singey namgyal, it is believed that King Singey Namgyal died here at Hanle while on his return from an expedition Mongols. The views from the top of monastery are just breath taking. Hanle is also house an Indian astronomical observatory which is the world highest observatory in the world at a staggering height of 4500m. Day 8:Hanle-Tsomoriri Lake (4500m) 158kms

After breakfast leave for Tsomoriri Lake via Mahe bridge, Yaya Tso and Nurpa la, long wonderful drive gives us tremendous opportunities for photography. The beautiful barren landscape are difficult to imagine. We pass through many typical Ladakhi villages. After check-in at Tsomoriri fix camp, visit the small Korzok monastery and spend the evening at the banks of the lake. Tsomoriri Lake (4550M) is one of the most beautiful high altitude lakes, situated in the middle of the elevated valley of Rupshu surrounded by many high peaks. O/N fixed camp or hotel

Day 9:Tsomorri-Polo Kongka La (4950m)-Tsokar 4500m 70kms

Before leaving for Tsokar another small walk on the shore of the lake to enjoy this splendid place. En route visit nomadic residential school in Puga. Hot spring of Puga is very famous among the Ladakhi and believes to be cure many diseases. In this valley you can see lots sulphur mines. Drive to Polokongka la (4950M) and then going down towards Thukjay village and visit the monastery. In this valley you might see wild animal like wild Ass, blue ship, Argali, and Marmots etc. O/N Fixed camp

Day 10:Tsokar-Serchu (4290m) 145kms

After breakfast you’ll hit the plains of Skyangchu Thang (Leh Manali road), the Longest and Highest Plateau in Ladakh will reach the Pang. Take a short halt here for tea than to Lachung La 4900M Long and meandering .Mountains the shades of browns you didn’t know and land formations you didn’t think possible are the characteristic of this pass by the time we reached Nakee la 5000M. There are about twenty one winding curves along the road from Gata Loops, a series of hairpin bends looping down. It is a roller coaster ride we will never forget. You’ll hit the plains of Sarchu, the border point between the Ladakh and Himachal. O/N camp

Day 11:Serchu-Paralacha La –Darcha-Keylong (3080m) 114kms

After breakfast, proceed to Keylong capital of Lahaul Spiti via Baralacha La5000M.Take a short halt at Suraj Tal Lake for some memorable snaps. We were now one state lower, in Himachal Pradesh. Towards the end we crossed a lake Suraj Tal. We realised we were coming close to civilisation. Soon we would see people. We reach Darcha first village of Lahaul Spiti. Soon after, we will reach Keylong where the day’s journey ended. O/N hotel

Day 12:Keylong-Rohtang La –Manali (2050m) 120kms

Today we drive to Manali via Rohtang La 3937m which is one of the favourite destinations among Indian tourist. There are activities for the tourist like, Paragliding, Snow-Scooter riding. It is a gateway to Lahaul and Spiti, Pangi and Leh . This road is also the part of ROUTES DEL’ILMPOSSIBLE French documentary series produced by Tony Comiti Productions. Another 51km to Manali, you will then drive down to reach in Mari, and then to Kothi. Arrive Manali by evening. O/N hotel

Day 13:Manali-Nagar Castle-Manali

Manali is named after the lawgiver Manu. The word Manali comes from “Manu-Alaya” which literally means “the abode of Manu “located at an altitude of 2050M in the Beas River valley. Visit Manali which is circled by beautiful glades of deodars and flowering horse chestnuts.Visit Hadimba Temple, a four-story wooden temple is located in the middle of a forest. Afternoon visit Nagar 1760m. It is located on a wooded slope and commands an extensive view. It was the capital of erstwhile Kullu state for about 1400 years. Here, visit Roerich art gallery which houses the paintings of Nicholas Roerich as well as his sculptures. O/N hotel

Day 14:Manali –Delhi 522kms

Code of Ethics for tourists visiting Ladakh

  1. As a Guest – Respect local traditions- protect local cultural- maintain local prides. 
  2. While taking Photographs- Respect privacy-ask permission and restraint use of flashlight for photography and filming inside National Monuments and smoking and alcohol drinking is strictly prohibited 
  3. Respect Holy Place- preserve what you have come to see- never touch or remove religious objects- purchase and sale of antiques which is more than 100 years old is against the law and it attracts punishment under rules. 
  4. Keep stream water clean and avoid using pollutants such as detergents in stream and springs- if no toilets facilities are available- make sure are at least 30 Meter away from water source and Bury or cover waste.
  5. Giving to Children encourages begin- a donation to project like Health Centre or School is a more constructive way to help. 
  6. Visitors who value local traditions encourage local prides and maintain local cultures-please help them to gain a realistic view of life in other parts of the World. 
  7. The beauty of the place and loving kinds of the people may change you but please do not change them.

Drinking Water
Staying hydrated is important when undertaking any physical activity but particularly so at altitude where it is generally recommended to drink at least 3-4 litres per person per day.

We strongly encourage you not to buy bottled water as this contributes to the growing problem of plastic pollution in Ladakh. In Leh there is a shop called Dzomsa which sells safe drinking water. Ask anyone they will show you where this is on your first day in Leh.

We also suggest that you may like to bring a reusable bottle with a wide opening (Nalgene or similar)

Weather
The above weather chart for Leh shows average temperatures only – it does not reflect extremes of heat and cold. Generally the weather is good in Ladakh during the summer time, with warm to very hot sunny days (up to 30ºC/35ºC+) with cooler nights depending on the altitude (it can reach freezing point at some places in September). There is, however, the possibility of rain, and you should be prepared for this. The sun is very strong at these altitudes and some of the days on trek can be extremely hot.

Ladakh, though technically part of the Tibetan plateau and classified as a high altitude desert, can and does occasionally experience the effects of the Indian monsoon. Although the departures are timed to coincide when the weather is normally good, you should remember that in any mountain area the weather is never wholly predictable and you should be prepared and equipped to deal with any differences in weather beyond the conditions described above.
